“Optic fiber Systems” and Mordovia State University discussed opportunities for cooperation

On the 28th of April at the Mordovia State University “Optic fiber Systems” representatives met with the administration and scientists of MSU. During the meeting science and technology issues and opportunities for cooperation were discussed.

The Rector of the University Sergei Vdovin noted that the University has gained positive experience of cooperation with real economy enterprises. Besides that, the University has extensive potential, which can be successfully used jointly with “Optic fiber Systems” in order to further develop industrial cluster of optics and optoelectronic.

As possible areas of cooperation the following were suggested: joint scientific research, development and production of new products, initiating of metrological and technological research, material entrance control, internship and research works of students.

The General Director of “Optic fiber Systems” JSC Andrey Nikolaev noted that there is need of specialists in different areas at the enterprise – not just in physics or chemistry, but also in law studies, economy, linguistics etc. Mr. Nikolaev also pointed out that currently 80% of the staff is MSU graduates, who proved to be highly-qualified professionals.

In the near future a delegation from the University is planning to visit the plant of “Optic fiber Systems” JSC and get to know the production process.  There will be a plan of cooperation developed and a working group established.

“Optic fiber Systems” JSC (www.rusfiber.ru) – is the first Russian plant manufacturing optical fiber. The plant is situated in Saransk, Mordovia Republic. It  was officially opened September 25th,  2015. The shareholders of the company are RUSNANO, Gazprombank, the Government of Mordovia Republic.

Today it is a modern high-tech manufacturing with a capacity of 2,4 million km of optical fiber per year. While based on the scheduled upgrade project the capacity of the plant will be increased to 4 mln kilometers of optical fiber per year.

Currently there are the most popular types of the fiber – optical fibers of G652d and G657A1/G652d standards - are serially produced at the plant. The both types of the fiber are certified and were successfully tested by OJCS Rostelecom. Optical fibers of other types are planned to produce.
