"Optic fiber Systems" JSC completed the upgrade project

On May 22, 2019, a formal meeting dedicated to the results of the upgrade project was held. The participants of the meeting were the Head of the Republic of Mordovia Vladimir Volkov, members of the Government of the Republic of Mordovia, Board of Directors of "Optic fiber Systems" JSC, representatives of N. P. Ogarev Mordovia State University and Group of companies "Optikenergo".

The total cost of the project was more than 950 million rubles, 500 million rubles of which was a loan from Industry Development Fund. Thanks to concessional financing, the company purchased modern equipment that would allow the company to improve the production efficiency and create conditions for the development of new products.

With the help of the loan, the company updated induction furnaces of optical fiber draw towers, put into operation an additional drawing line, as well as an additional production area for optical fiber coloring and experimental area to manufacture preforms for optical fiber production using FCVD technology.

New equipment will allow to draw preforms of bigger diameter and length and thus  the capacity of the plant will increase up to 4 mln kilometers of optical fiber per year.

In the nearest future, the company will be able to meet more than 50% of the fiber demand of Russian cable plants. According to the company, today the needs of the Russian market that is 84% is provided by supplies from abroad. The upgrade project was aimed  to increase the capacity of the plant, which would meet the growing demand for optical fiber in the Russian market and optimize the cost of production.

As a result, the company not only increased the production capacity of optical fiber, but also provided an opportunity for a significant expansion of the product range. Today the product range includes colored fiber of G.652.D and G.657.A1 standards, fiber with “Ring marking“ coloring. Fiber of G. 655 and G. 651 standards, fiber with reduced diameter of 200 µm and other types of optical fibers demanded by the market are being prepared for release.

As The General Director of "Optic fiber Systems" JSC Andrey Nilolaev commented: “Today the optical fiber market is a highly competitive market of high-tech products, that has significant importance in the development of modern communication networks. The upgrade project will allow not only to strengthen positions of the plant in the Russian market of optical fiber, but will also support the increase of the company’s competitiveness with export deliveries. We are grateful to the Industry Development Fund for supporting such an important project for Russia”.
