"Optic fiber Systems" JSC helps children from needy families to get distance education

Since April 6, 2020, due to the unfavorable epidemiological situation, all educational organizations of the Republic of Mordovia have switched to a distance learning format. However, not all children have the technical ability to fully switch to distance education. For many families who do not have computers, access to online educational platforms and digital resources, as well as preparation for state final exam at home, has proved to be almost impossible.

"Optic fiber Systems" JSC is the only Russian plant manufacturing optical fiber, which sees as its mission to make maximum contribution to the development of telecommunication systems, Internet access and modern digital technologies in our country, could not stand by in this situation.

With the assistance of the Ministry of social protection and the Ministry of education of the Republic of Mordovia, "Optic fiber Systems" JSC selected 8 large needy families with 39 children and provided them with notebooks to access electronic education systems.

One of these large families is a Afanasievy family from Bolshie Bereznyaki district. There are 6 children in the family, 4 of whom attend school. The eldest daughter Olga is in the 11th grade and this year is preparing for state final exam. The Afanasievy don’t have a computer, their education is conducted using a mobile phone, and for large family this is a problem that prevents to study remotely in full, especially for Olga. The girl plans to enter the Agrarian Institute of the Ogarev Mordovia State University. She is currently focused on preparing for exams in Russian language, specialized mathematics and biology. In her free time, Olga enjoys singing, playing the KVN (humorous game), participating in athletics and volleyball sections.

"We are very pleased to be able to support families in need. Children should not be held hostage to the situation caused by the pandemic. It is very important that this period is passed with the least losses, primarily for the education of schoolchildren. We hope that the presence of a new notebook in the family will greatly facilitate the process of distance learning and preparation for the final state certification, - explained the General Director of "Optic fiber Systems" JSC Andrey Nikolaev. - On behalf of the Company, I wish all the children good luck and success in their studies."
